Summer Reading Bingo

Join us on Friday June 1 from 1-4 p.m. to kick off Summer Reading SuperHeroes Bingo at HideAway Used Books. Kids of all ages are invited to pick up a bingo card that invites them to read about superheroes, read a true story, read under a tree, and participate in many other reading adventures. Fill out one line for a little prize, or complete a black out for bigger prizes. Fill out as many bingo cards as you can all summer long!

On June 1 we'll have opportunities to fill out several squares during the event. In addition, HideAway Books will be hosting a story time every day during the summer at 1 p.m. in the store. Each day's story will correspond to one of the bingo squares. Lots of prizes, (including a free ice cream scoop from Culver's in American Fork), and lots of fun.

If you are a business who would like to donate a prize, please contact us. Be a superhero and read!

Independent Bookstore Day

Stop on by on April 28th from 10-5 for Independent Bookstore Day. This national bookstore celebration recognizes the uniqueness in each community bookstore. Isn't it awesome to have stores that reflect your community's special personality?

At HideAway Books we are surrounded by families and kids, so our children's section is the biggest focus, although adult books can be found here too. Other community stores do their own thing to reflect their community. We'll have special deals all day, a fundraiser for a local family, sidewalk chalk drawing, face painting, and treats for all our customers. Don't miss it. Click Here for Event info on Facebook.

Highland resident opens used bookstore in American Fork

   April 23, 2018, 11:51 am

By Christy Jepson

Once upon a time, Heidi Rowley, a Highland resident, dreamed about opening her own used bookstore. Just a few months ago, on December 8, her dream came true. HideAway Used Books, in American Fork, is one of the few used bookstores between Provo and Salt Lake.

After a career in journalism and moving back to Utah, Rowley thought it was too late to fulfill her dream of owning her own bookstore. However, over a year ago, the idea popped into her head again, so she decided to look into it further and do some research. "After finding out that there were no used bookstores in the growing North Utah County area, I thought to myself, 'I think I can do this,'" said Rowley. She then started collecting books and taking Small Business Administration classes. Soon one thing led to another and in December opened her bookstore.

"Even though there are books for all ages and interests, my big focus is quality used children's books in a very kid-friendly environment," said Rowley. What makes Rowley the happiest is when she sees kids come in and are excited to find a book they want to read. She designed her store in such a way that after kids are done looking for their books they have puzzles and activities to do while they wait.

Not only does HideAway Used Books have a great selection of children's books, they also host events for children throughout the year. On March 31 from 11-1 pm, there will be a children's Easter event with prize eggs, live bunnies, and face painting. Previous events have been a Peter Rabbit Event and Dr. Seuss Day.

When asked what her favorite children's books is, "That is a difficult question. But I would have to say Hans Christian Anderson tales. I love all of them," said Rowley. So, for now, her story continues... and it sounds like it will end with a happily ever after.

Hideaway Used Books is located at 67 N. Center Street in American Fork, across from the American Fork Fire Department. They are opened Tuesday through Friday 10 am to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 to 5 p.m.

Ribbon Cutting

HideAway Books is excited to now be a member of the American Fork Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber is an amazing resource for local business. They help support businesses through publicity, education, networking, and resources. This is an exciting next step for the bookstore. We want to become an integral part of this community.

As is tradition, when a business joins the Chamber, they like to do ribbon cuttings with Mayor Brad Frost and other members of the City Council. Our ribbon cutting will take place today at 4 p.m.

We are so grateful for all the support the bookstore has recieved these past few months as we grow and get to know the needs of American Fork and the cities around us. Thank you.
